Adam Shapiro is a San Diego-based keyboardist and vocalist. The son of a jazz pianist, Adam grew up hauling his father's Rhodes electric piano and Hammond organ to and from gigs. He began formal lessons at age 10 and has been playing professionally for over 20 years. Adam "cut his teeth" playing in Austin, Texas at every venue imaginable. During that time, Adam worked the local R&B and blues circuit extensively. He later played country dance halls and honky-tonks across the state and gigged with Austin-based jazz fusion groups, while simultaneously doing session and solo work. While in Austin, Adam opened for or backed up many well known R&B and country acts including Bo Diddley, Ray Price, and LeRoy Parnell. These experiences provided Adam with a diverse set of musical influences and experiences which he draws on to this day.
Moving to Jacksonville, Florida, Adam began working primarily with DRB, a highly skilled show band that played primarily across the Southeast. With DRB and as a solo performer, Adam worked the corporate, festival, and wedding circuits extensively. With DRB, he opened for James Brown, Kool 'n the Gang, Aaron Neville, Huey Lewis & the News, among others.
Since relocating to San Diego, Adam currently performs with a variety of Southern California groups including Laguna, GruvMatic, Cool Band Luke, and Analog Project. More recently, he has also begun to focus on his solo performances, entertaining crowds with his diverse repertoire and unique arrangements of popular songs.
Adam holds a BA from the University of Florida and a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin.
